Need to know more about and think long and hard before taking on the responsibility of owning a dog.!!
The German Shepherd Dog Club of Essex was registered with the Kennel Club in 1951 and it is doubtful if any of the Founder Members are still around. They must have been a tough lot though, as old records show a letter from the then Chairman to the committee chastising them for fighting outside the White Hart Public House in Hornchurch. Evidently they had held a Committee meeting in the Pub and an argument about Obedience had occurred. After closing time the argument continued on the pavement outside and soon turned to fisticuffs. Today’s Committee members are much more circumspect.
German Shepherd Dogs are considered as good house dogs because of their calm nature and caring temperament.
The GSD Club of Essex meets for Show Ring and Obedience training every Wednesday at the Havering Dog Training Centre, Painsbrook Recreation Ground, Church Road, Harold Wood, Essex RM3 0SH. The Training Centre was built in 2008 through the combined efforts of the GSDC Essex and Elm Park Dog Club who, when the Council evicted them from their then training hall fought back and eventually Havering Council built the Centre exclusively for the use of these two Clubs and other canine activities associated with them.
Our obedience training aims towards the Kennel Club’s Good Citizens Tests and our Trainer Joan Bunce makes this training FUN as well turning an unruly dog into a good canine citizen. She trains unruly owners too!
